A team led by Hon'ble Chairperson of the National Commission for Women, Shri Kamala Kumari Parajuliju, Hon'ble Member of the National Commission for Women, Shri Savitra Kumari Sharma and other staff members visited six community schools in Beshishahar of Lamjung District on September 3, 2008. An orientation program on the prevention of gender based violence at school level was conducted in two groups with the participation of 60 participants. Similarly, in Tanahu district on September 3, 2078 BS, about 70 people including Judicial Committee officials, Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office, staff of Ekdwar Crisis Management Committee, women police personnel of Women's Cell, local media personnel and engineers participated in the program. An Orientation Program on Violence and Access to Justice was conducted. In the program, District Court Judge Mr. Harishchandra Dhunganaju made a presentation on the role of the Judicial Committee against Violence against Women. The program was conducted by Shri Roshni Shrestha, Women Development Officer of the Commission and Shri Devi Pandit, Women Development Inspector.
During the discussion, it was emphasized that complaint boxes should be kept in every community school and the school management committee should open the box in the presence of the police administration and address the grievances properly. The participants had expressed.
The team conducted on-the-spot monitoring of various types of violence against women on September 3, 2008 with the Deputy Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Lamjung District, Shri Krishna Bahadur Karki, Investigation Officer and Women's Cell. And was discussed.
Similarly, monitoring was carried out at a human service ashram for 31 people including men, women and children in Lamjung Beshishahar on September 3, 2008. Anita Adhikari, an engineer and coordinator dedicated to the human service of the ashram, expressed happiness over the monitoring of the ashram by the chairperson herself and said that the ashram needs its own building and health technical staff. She requested the National Commission for Women to provide necessary coordination and facilitation to provide necessary training to the psychosocial counselors and caregivers working in the ashram.
On the same day, the team monitored the efforts made to manage the incidents of violence against women at the One-Door Crisis Management Center at the District Hospital, Lamjung Beshishahar.
After meeting with the Chief District Officer of the District Administration Office in Tanahu District on September 3, 2008, it was discussed what kind of incidents of violence against women have been registered in large numbers in Tanahu District. During the monitoring, the Hon'ble Chairman had suggested to appoint one staff member in each district administration office as a gender liaison person.
On the same day, the team also met the Medical Superintendent and responsible staff of OCMC Unit at the One Door Crisis Management Center at Damauli Hospital in Tanahu District and discussed issues related to violence against women, protection / privacy and treatment and counseling services, post-treatment follow-up, forced abortion and safe abortion services. During the monitoring, the Medical Superintendent and the responsible staff of the OCMC unit said that physical infrastructure and skilled consultants are needed to make the OCMC service more effective.
