A team led by Hon'ble Member of the National Commission for Women, Shri Krishna Kumari Poudelju, along with staff, met with Superintendent of Police, District Police Office, Udaipur, Subhash Chandra Bohara, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bed Prasad Gautam and Chief of Women's Cell, Deputy Inspector of Police, Uma Gurung. In-field monitoring and discussion has been done on the initiatives in the field and whether the office operation and management is gender friendly. On the same day, a meeting was held with the staff of the One Door Crisis Management Center under the District Hospital, Udaipur to discuss the services provided to the women affected by violence from the center and the problems encountered while providing services. Expressing happiness over the monitoring by the OCMC staff from the commission, the staff of the center had requested to coordinate in the case management.
The team also monitored the Women's Rehabilitation Center WOREC, which operates safe housing for women affected by violence in the district. The house is being run with the joint financial support of WOREC and Triyuga Municipality.
Similarly, the team had conducted on-site monitoring and inspection of the complaints lodged with the National Commission for Sexual Harassment at the Itahari Sub-Metropolitan Office of Sunsari District on 2078-06-13 and discussed the situation of the victims. In the process, the National Women's Commission had demanded necessary action against the officials for repeatedly using abusive language against women service recipients in public places in the workplace while holding a dignified position like the head of the municipality.
Similarly, the team met Mr. Bal Krishna Thapaliya, Chairman of Swabodh Sadhana Kendra, an orphanage in Mechi Municipality, Ward No. 9, Jhapa District on 2078-06-14 and got information about the operation of the orphanage. It was learned that 14 children are dependent and this organization has received support from the state government. Apart from that, it was learned that handouts were also used to run the ashram.
Judicial Committee Officers, Chief District Officer, Superintendent of Police of District Police Office, Women Police Chief of Women's Cell, Local Media Personnel, Women's Security Housing Operator WOREC Nepal and others An orientation program on good practices and access to justice was conducted with the participation of about 80 people representing various organizations. At the program, District Judge Mr. Deepak Khanal made a presentation on the status and challenges of exercising judicial power at the local level.
The team dated 2078.06. An orientation program on prevention of gender based violence at school level was conducted in the presence of 70 people including students of six community schools, headmasters, teachers and school management committee officials at Dhulabari Secondary School, Ward No. 10, Mechi Municipality, Jhapa District on April 30. Commission Member Shri Krishna Kumari Poudel Khatiwada, Deputy Secretary Shri Anju Dhungana, Area Police Office Kakadbhitta Deputy Superintendent of Police Shri Sunil Dahal and Dhulabari Secondary School Teacher Shri Shila Khawas presented working papers at the program. The program was conducted by Mr. Roshni Shrestha, Women Development Officer of the Commission.
During the discussion, the participants stressed on the need to hold such programs at the school level for all the schools. The participants emphasized the need to start from door to door to control gender based violence and sexual abuse, and that this kind of orientation program would help raise awareness about women's rights and that all bodies should play a positive role with equal commitment.
Similarly, the team conducted a strategic planning meeting and interaction program on prevention of gender based violence with the security forces at the District Administration Office Review Office, Morang District on 2078-06-13. Member of the National Commission for Women Shri Krishna Kumari Poudel Khatiwadaju chaired the meeting and Member of the Provincial Assembly Kedar Karki was the chief guest. The program was attended by the Chief District Officer, Chiefs of various security agencies, stakeholders and media persons.
