The National Women Commission was established on March 7, 2002, according to the decision of the Council of Ministers. After the promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal in September 2015, NWC received constitutional recognition. The National Women Commission Act (2017) and Regulations (2021) further strengthened the legality of the Commission and shaped a defined role, responsibilities, and mechanism.
